A wide variety of health issues can affect an individual’s ability to move comfortably. These include but are not limited to: many forms of arthritis, including fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS); chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, post-polio syndrome, post-rehabilitation from surgery or injury, neuropathy, heart disease, diabetes, post-stroke and frail elderly (often involving a combination of health issues).
AquaBility Training and Certification Pathway
AquaBility training is unique because:
This course promotes focussing on each participant's ability, rather than their challenges.
AquaBility cueing strategies encourage optimal alignment and technique, to facilitate the best possible exercise outcomes for each participant.
The AquaBility leadership philosophy is to empower participants, using empathetic, encouraging cues.
The goal of this course is to educate instructors how to effectively teach participants to understand and self-select their ideal level of exertion, exercise modifications, and progressions.
AquaBility exercises and adaptations are based on science and best practices, whether chest deep or suspended/deep water, in recreational and therapeutic pool temperatures.
The AQX AquaBility course is advanced training for experienced AQX certified aqua fitness instructors (or equivalent), therapists and other movement motivators helping people exercise (vertically, independently) in the water.
This course prepares instructors to teach people with a range of movement abilities and health conditions, in recreational or warm-water pools.
Because you usually don't have current health information for each participant, and may not be medically qualified to diagnose and prescribe individualized exercise, detailed study of health conditions is not the focus of this course.
AquaBility training does not prepare leaders to provide aquatic therapy, or work with individuals who have profound disabilities or unstable health conditions.
The AQX AquaBility Certification* Course:
